Principal Information

Mr. Kevin Morris

It is my pleasure to serve as principal for what is going to be my 15th year and 25th in education overall. I became Mt. Olive principal in 2006, following ten years of service within the Pasadena Unified School District. I began teaching the 3rd-7th grade At-Risk class at Edison Elementary for seven years. I taught two more years as a 5th and 6th grade teacher while serving as the administrative designee. Then I served one year as the vice principal of McKinley K-8 Arts Magnet and one year as vice principal of Eliot Middle School. I finally served as principal designee of Rose City Continuation High School before moving to Duarte.

After graduating from Pasadena High School, I attended the University of Texas at San Antonio on a four-year basketball scholarship. I graduated from UTSA with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Management with a Concentration in Building Development. After switching careers, I decided to become a teacher and attended Point Loma Nazarene University where I earned a K-12 Teaching Credential, Administrative Credential and Masters in Educational Leadership.

As a forward thinking and creative instructional leader, it is my task to develop a collaborative school environment to create a successful school community. Collaborative schools with teachers, parents and community members are essential to enriching the lives of our students. The late great Sir Ken Robinson and world-renowned educational advisor and expert, New York Times bestselling author, and most viewed TED talk speaker, was quoted as saying, “The role of a creative leader is not to have all the ideas; it’s to create a culture where everyone can have ideas and feel they’re valued.” He also stated, “The fact is that given the challenges we face, education doesn’t need to be reformed — it needs to be transformed. The key to this transformation is not to standardize education, but to personalize it, to build achievement on discovering the individual talents of each child, to put students in an environment where they want to learn and where they can naturally discover their true passions.”

That vision is what Mt. Olive Innovation and Technology High School exemplifies, because we transform education and personalize the student experience
